Club Histories

Old Whitgiftian Swimming Club

The OWSC was set up by several enthusiastic Old Boys of Whitgift School in the early 1960s when the current school pool was built. The club was initially swimming only but soon became a water polo club as the school's use of the pool resulted in stronger and larger water polo sides whose members naturally joined OWSC for fitness and competition on leaving school. The club has been competing in water polo competitions for 35 years.

OMW Swimming Club

The OMW water polo club is traditionally the Old Boys water polo club of Trinity School. It was a competing team in the water polo National League for many years, including winning the Second Division title one year. The school also has a strong heritage of water polo success including winning the national schools championship in 1989, 1991, 1998, 2000 and 2001.

Since 1994

In 1994, the two clubs decided to merge their playing sections to boost the playing strength and depth of both clubs - a move that, over 10 years later, has proved to have been a good one. To maintain the name and history of both clubs, they were not fully merged and the combined team play under both club names - Old Whitgiftians in the Surrey and Thameside leagues and OMW in the London league - and continue to use the pools at both of the two associated schools.

Now that the club has access to the new pool at Whitgift school the team is getting used to playing water polo with no floor - a shock for some of the older players but it has already improved the quality of the team and their results.
